As part of a collective of working ranch buildings, the Vista House is located on a prominent mesa-top overlooking the Pecos River, five miles south of Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Two simple boxes are organized around a series of stone walls that extend out into the site, tying the house to sandstone bedrock, while screening indoor and outdoor living spaces from wind and sun. The roof lines continue adjacent topography, minimizing the impact of the house in the landscape. A stone walkway leads visitors laterally into the main living space, which is focused on the expansive view south across the river valley and sectional view north to mesa and sky. The poetic intention of organizing space around the stone walls and views works with a complete environmental strategy of passive heating and cooling. Through its materials and construction methods the Vista House makes a physical connection to local building typology. Como parte de un colectivo de edificios de rancho, la Casa de Vista está situada en una mesa-tapa prominente que pasa por alto del Río Pecos. Dos cajas simples se organizan alrededor de una serie de paredes de piedra que extiendan hacia fuera en el sitio, atando la casa a la roca arenisca de fondo, mientras que defienden el interior del viento y del sol. Las líneas de la azotea continúan la topografía adyacente, reduciendo al mínimo el impacto de la casa en el paisaje. Una calzada de piedra conduce a visitantes lateralmente asi a la sala principal, que se centra en la visión expansiva al sur a través del Valle y la visión seccional al norte al mesa y al cielo. La intención poética de organizar alrededor de las paredes de piedra y las vistas trabaja con una estrategia ambiental completa de la calefacción y de refrescarse pasivos. Con sus materiales y métodos de la construcción la Casa de Vista hace una conexión física a la tipología local del edificio.
